Guest Speaker: Brittany James
Born in Maryland, and raised in San Antonio, Texas, Brittany James is the youngest granddaughter of the USAF 4-Star General, Daniel “Chappie” James, Jr. Brought up to love God, her country, and her neighbor, Britt’s parents taught her at an early age to develop her talents in order to give back through her gifts. With a strong sense of family heritage and expectations to succeed in life’s ventures.
Britt pursued an array of fine arts, sports and community service throughout her youth, including dance, volleyball, and vocal performance that continues to be a prominent gift into her adulthood. Britt went on to be a scholarship athlete in college, playing volleyball for Laredo Community College and then Colorado Christian University. Britt to complete her B.A. in English with Texas Teacher Certification in 2009 from Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. Immediately after graduation, Britt was called to Austin, Texas.
Since then, Britt has directed state champion varsity volleyball programs, taught in early childhood classrooms, and has grown deep roots serving through the local church where she leads worship weekly. In 2013. Britt has started her professional career in higher education recruiting and admissions at a small graduate campus located in uptown Austin. Ranging from strategic recruitment to event planning/promotion, Britt’s role involves many hats, as she is also the chair of the Black History Month Planning Committee and serves on the PR committee for Tuskegee Airmen Inc. Britt earned her M.A. in Strategic Communication from American University in 2016.
Britt will speak about her Grandfather Daniel “Chappie” James, Jr. who was an American fighter pilot in the U.S. Air Force, who in 1975 became the first African American to reach the rank of four-star General in the armed forces.
