Memorial Day at the Texas State Cemetary
The Memorial Day service will occur Monday May 27 at the Texas State Cemetery 909 Navasota St (at 7th St) from 10 to 11AM. Kathi Thomas of the DAR Thankful Hubbard DAR Chapter is the Memorial Day Service Chair for this combined effort of the SAR and the DAR. There are always SAR Patrick Henry Chapter participants present. There are also usually Compatriots from the Alexander Hamilton Chapter, the William Hightower Chapter, and the Robert Rankin Chapter. Kathi leads the effort coordinating the functions with the help of numerous Capital Area Regents Council DAT Chapters including the Lohmann Ford Chapter the Thankful Hubbard Chapter, and the Daniel Coleman Chapter. Jim Clements will provide the introductions and the guest speaker is Jeff Rose Chief Justice 3rd Court of Appeals, Texas.
The Honorable Jeff Rose brings a wealth of experience and accomplishment to the Third Court of Appeals. Jeff’s public service has included work as a State District Judge for Travis County, Chief of General Litigation for the State of Texas, and Deputy First Assistant Attorney General under Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott. In private practice, Jeff represented a broad cross section of clients in litigation matters and earned partnership in a large Texas law firm. Jeff’s service to the community, the public, his clients, and his fellow lawyers gives him the foundation to be a strong voice on the Court. Jeff has earned Board Certification in Civil Trial Law and has been recognized four times as a “Texas Super Lawyer.” He has been active in the Austin Bar Association as a Director and through the community service and continuing legal education committees. Jeff has also given back to the Austin community, and in particular to children in need, through his leadership roles in Big Brothers/Big Sisters, The Rise School of Austin, The Sportsman’s Club of Austin, and Capitol Area Food Bank.
