The Passing of Bill Marrs
Gentlemen,
It is with a sad heart that I inform you of the passing of our friend, William M. Marrs, II of Round Rock, Texas. Bill served for years as the Genealogist for the Texas SAR Society; and many more years as Secretary of the Texas SAR before his election as President. He later served as both Alternate Trustee and Trustee for the Texas Society. When I became President General of the national society, Bill served as the V.P.G of the International District and acted as my travel advisor. It was during the year 2009-2010 that Bill and I solidified our 20 + year friendship. We talked almost every day, and some days we chatted several times.
Bill loved genealogy and had a marvelous pedigree which allowed him membership in the Society of Colonial Wars, Sons of the Revolution, the General Society of 1812, and the Founders and Patriots of America, to name a few. He served as state president or state governor of each of the above.
Bill’s genealogical accomplishments were recognized in 2018 when he was inducted into the Texas Genealogical Hall of Fame. He died peacefully at home early this afternoon. Yesterday, he had a wonderful Father’s Day, celebrating it with both his brothers and his children.
Bill had been hospice for several months, and his death was not due to the COVID virus. His remains will be cremated and a memorial service will be planned after the Methodist Church in Round Rock reopens.
